Innovative Excavation Techniques

A number of innovative excavation techniques such as vacuum and air plant can be used to avoid underground service damage (buried pipes and cables), reduce the size of excavations and thus reduce waste materials, reinstatements costs and disruption. It is also the safest way to work underground, being non aggressive or invasive.

The ‘suction excavator’, demonstrated by John Mee construction, works on a vacuum principle, using tremendous force to pull compacted soils, clay and rocks from the ground and placing it within the confines of the vehicle in one operation.

Also demonstrated, the ‘Vac-Ex’ skid steer ‘Cor-Ex’ unit is the ideal solution for keyhole technology repair or investigation works. Keyhole repair can quickly and cost-effectively core an 18” diameter hole through asphalt, asphalt-concrete and reinforced concrete road systems and pavements. Associated benefits include a 50% reduction in excavation and pavement restoration costs.
